West Liberty Summer in the Park Music Series

Friday July 31   5:30PM to 7PM Al & Aleta Murphy, then from 7PM to 10PM Eugenio & Adalberto Solis

West Liberty is very fortunate to have two outstanding talents that offer an original and exceptional duet of guitar and vocals. The Murphy’s have been dazzling audiences’ throughout for many years sharing a brilliant folklorist repertoire of fiddle, guitar and vocals that speaks directly to the heart.

Eugenio and Adalberto Solis perform a variety of classic Mexican folk.  In 1996, they participated in the Smithsonian Institution Festival of American Folklife in Washington D.C. representing Iowa.

Friday August 7  5:30PM to 10PM  Mutiny in the Parlor

This group is ripe with toe-tapping hot jazz, swing and parlor tunes from the 1910s – 1940s.  It is described as “music your dearly departed Great Grandmother made out to.  Picture it:  Victrola spinning away in the corner, palms damp as Great Grandpa-To-Be leans in to steal a kiss while the chaperone fiddles with her knitting…Is it hot in here, or is it just Grandma?”

Friday August 14  5:30PM to 10PM  Gusto Norteño

This is West Liberty’s own spectacular seven-man band with a Latino Tex/Mex repertoire that includes Cumbias, Guapangos, Boleros, Rancheras and Corridos.  This lively group will get you to shake the dust from your boots, cinch your belt buckle and grab your guy or gal and dance throughout the streets of West Liberty.  Gusto Norteño highlights an array of instruments like the accordion, saxophone, keyboard, drums, bajo sexto and the guiro to the rhythmic sounds of today’s most popular Latin music.

Friday August 21  5:30PM to 10PM  Kevin Burt and the Instigators

Kevin Burt and the Instigators have been electrifying audiences’ across the country in their steady march on the blues circuit.  Their remarkable soul-inspired brand of blues is consistently compared to a range of premium artistry from Bill Withers to B.B. King.  Kevin, a self taught musician (harmonica and guitar) whose smooth, warm vocal presentation sets a mood of relaxed exhilaration with a welcome mixture of serious music and infectious humor audiences of all ages seem to enjoy.

Friday August 28  5:30PM to 10PM  Koplant No

The musically savvy sophistication of Koplant No debuted on the scene nearly a year and a half ago inspired with the sound of jazz influenced rock.  These talents perform with a host of instrumentation like trumpet, sax, keyboard, bass, drums and SPD-S (an electronic sampling pad).  The Iowa City group has played a variety of arts venues as well as the Iowa City Jazz Festival.  Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy these cool tunes on a hot summer night.
